Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

What is Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

A child has special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) if he or she has learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for him or her to learn than most other children of about the same age. We can help most children overcome the barriers their difficulties present quickly and easily. A few children will need extra help for some or all of their time in school.

What we will do to help you and your child?group

handsThis school places great importance on identifying special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) early so that we can help children as quickly as possible. We recognise that children learn in different ways and can have different kinds or levels of SEND. We provide a range of interventions according to the needs highlighted.

purpleChildren make progress at different rates and have different ways in which they learn best. As a school, we take this into account in the way we organise and teach lessons. Children making slower progress, or having particular difficulties in one area, are given extra help and differentiated work to help them succeed. We will contact you if it is thought that your child may have special educational needs.

The SENCo works in partnership with parents/ carers, staff and with other professionals. She is responsible for making sure your child's progress is carefully recorded, monitored and reviewed.
